North-eastern Ontario, 20 kilometres west of the Ontario-Quebec border, approximately 150 kilometres northeast and north of Timmins and Kirkland Lake, Ontario respectively. The project lies within the north-central part of the Abitibi subprovince of the Canadian Shield. Access to the property is by truck. A number of 4 wheel drive and all terrain vehicle tracks and trails cross the property providing good access for exploration.
Highlights & Potential for Discovery:
High grade gold assays were returned from surface samples at North Abitibi in late 2011 following a recent trenching program.
The North Abitibi property hosts a number of gold occurrences which require additional drilling to evaluate their economic potential. Tri Origin is targeting along strike and down dip extensions of the Spade Lake gold zone which has returned gold values from drilling of up to 23.4 grams per tonne across 1.5 metres and 7.9 grams per tonnes across 4.5 metres and the Road zone which has returned values of 1.77 grams per tonnes across 8.1 metres including 5.02 grams per tonnes across 1.0 metre and 17.79 grams per tonne across 1.6 metres. These and other gold-bearing marker units which extend across the property provide strong evidence for as yet undiscovered deposits of gold.
Description of Asset:
The project comprises 16 unpatented contiguous claims covering 28 square kilometres (2864 hectares). Vista Gold Corporation transferred 100% interest in 7 claims to Tri Origin subject to certain exploration committments and a back-in right held by Vista Gold. Tri Origin also has a purchase option to acquire 100% interest in 9 claims from North American Exploration Inc.
Reason for Selection:
The Burntbush greenstone belt which continues eastward into Quebec as the Harricana-Turgeon greenstone belt hosts the Matagami, Selbaie, Joutel and Casa Berardi mining camps in Quebec and the Detour Lake mine in Ontario. The area has been and continues to be a significant producer of gold and base metals. At Tri Origins property, extensive overburden cover inhibits the use of most exploration techniques, however, the metalliferous nature of the property and potential rewards warrant additional surveying and drilling.
Planned Exploration:
Additional excavating and detailed sampling is planned at the Road Gold Zone for the current field season. This will be followed by a diamond drill program to test down dip and along strike of known gold mineralization, and to test IP anomalies from previous surveys.
Technical information
Project and Regional Synopsis:
The North Abitibi property is located in the Burntbush greenstone belt, part of the Abitibi subprovince of the Canadian Shield. The Abitibi is one of the worlds most prolific producers of gold and base metals. The east-west trending Burntbush greenstone belt is comprised of two principal lithodomains; the northern and eastern parts of the property are underlain by predominantly metasedimentary rocks, and the southern and western parts are underlain by predominately metavolcanic rocks within which diamond drilling has delineated the Spade Lake and other gold zones. Elsewhere near the contact of these two domains, there occur thin units of iron-rich exhalative-type sedimentary rock which contain anomalous values of copper and gold and consist of banded magnetite-silica-amphibole +/- garnet (oxide facies) or amphibole-garnet (silica facies). The Casa Berardi gold deposits, located about 35 km east of the property, and the Spade Lake zone both occur within 1 km of the same regional metasedimentary-metavolvanic contact.
Results to Date:
A total of 80 historic drill holes are spread across the length of the property, and historical gold intercepts indicate targets for future diamond drilling. The majority of these holes were completed by Newmont, Cogema Canada and Tri Origin Exploration. Twenty-one (21) of these holes reported at least one sample of greater than 2 grams per tonne of gold across a one meter sample intersected. Compilation of previous and current work has resulted in a substantial database comprising 106 diamond drill holes, survey results from ground electromagnetic and induced polarization surveys. High resolution heliborne electromagnetic and magnetic data were acquired by Tri Origin in 2008. Numerous drill targets have been selected for future drilling.
